About the Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby
The Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby works towards equality, social justice and human rights for members of the LGBTIQ community. The VGLRL achieves its goals through representation, advocacy and working with the media.
We are not aligned with any political party. We are a community based lobby group. We work with, and for the community, along with non profit, health and representatives of government agencies to create positive change in the area of human rights and policy development.
We acknowledge the unique rights and status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the first owners and ongoing custodians of this land.
We support cultural diversity and difference and recognise that respecting these differences makes our society stronger.
We aim to achieve equal representation of women and men within the organisation, and work very closely with the transgender community to ensure that gender variant/diverse community members are represented on the management committee.
We are happy to provide comment to the media regarding current affairs and topical issues. Please call us on 0417 484 438 to speak with our spokesperson.
Anyone can become a member of the VGLRL, as long as they agree with the mission, philosophy and objectives of the organisation. The VGLRL management committee is designed to ensure representation of LGBTIQ people, while still allowing space for members who do not identify as LGBTIQ.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide legal or financial advice as we do not have the resources to assist with individual matters.
Please contact the Federation of Community Legal Centres or Victoria Legal Aid to be directed to the right place.
